Craniosacral Therapy (CST) focuses on the use of gentle, light touches to evaluate and enhance the functioning of the craniosacral system – a system comprised of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surrounds and protect the brain and spinal cord. The technique is very gentle and typically uses a soft touch no greater than 5 grams (the weight of a nickel), therefore making it a suitable form of therapy for people of all ages.
Every day, our body must work to compensate for the stresses and straining it goes through. Unfortunately, these stresses can sometimes present as tissue tension in the craniosacral system disturbing its normal functioning. It has been shown that by reducing these tensions in the craniosacral system, the functioning of the central nervous system and other systems of the body improves. Craniosacral therapy can be used as a preventative health measure and direct form of treatment for a wide range of problems associated with pain and dysfunction. It may be a stand-alone or a part of another therapy to enhance the overall effectiveness of treatment.
